2023-2024 Recommended Apple Laptop Purchase
for Grades 3rd – 8th

The Fisler Foundation recommends the following minimum laptop specifications for students in grades 3rd – 8th when purchasing a new laptop:

  • 13” Screen
  • 8 GB Memory or higher
  • 256 GB Storage or higher
  • Compatible with Ventura macOS

This MacBook model (new or used/refurbished) is the recommended model compatible with MacOS Ventura:

  • M1 or M2 MacBook Air (2020 or newer)

The minimum requirement for the 23/24 school year is a 2018 MacBook Air.

Laptops older than 2018 cannot be used for the 23/24 school year.

A good current base model would be the MacBook Air:

AppleCare+ coverage is highly recommended for new MacBook purchases.
AppleCare+ extends your coverage to three years from your AppleCare+ purchase date and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months (with affordable service fees).

Parents are free to upgrade to a higher model based on their child’s needs. However, please note that the requirements for student laptops will not exceed the needs provided by a MacBook Air (the specifications of a MacBook Pro will not ever be required). The above specs are provided as the minimum standard for new laptop purchases.
